SARUD Training on “Bioeconomy” [19.05.18]
On the basis of the Russian State Agrarian University - MAA named after K.A. Timiryazev, a platform was provided for the exchange of experience of international experts in the field of bioeconomics
On the 17-18th of May the Training on “Bioeconomy” took place at the Russian State Agrarian University - Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy, Russia.The aim of the training was to bring together scientists from Germany, Russia and Kazakhstan to exchange ideas about the actual topics and problems in the field of bioeconomy.
Representatives from Nuertingen-Geislingen University, Germany Prof. Dr. Juergen Braun, from Moscow State University - Prof. Dr. Petr Kiryushkin and from Russian State Agricultural University - Prof. Dr. Valeriy Koshelev delivered their lectures to give an input for fruitful discussion and exchange among invited scientists.
The participants of the seminar were representatives of the Russian and Kazakh high education institutions implementing the master´s program in rural development and sustainable agriculture, including: Russian State Agrarian University - Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy (Russia), Omsk State Agrarian University (Russia), Michurinsk State Agrarian University (Russia), Novosibirsk State Agrarian University (Russia), Buryat State Academy of Agriculture (Russia), Novosibirsk State Agrarian University (Russia), Seifullin Kazakh Agro Technical University (Kazakhstan), A.Baitursynov Kostanay State University (Kazakhstan), Sh.Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University (Kazakhstan).
On the first day Prof. Dr. Juergen Braun provided an overview on the elementary production factors in the bioeconomy, global trends and market developments, as well as value added potentials and innovation barriers of the bioeconomy in German. He also presented the Bioeconomy Policy Strategy, in particular the National Bioeconomy Policy Strategy of Germany. Prof. Dr. Juergen Braun defines the bioeconomy as “the sustainable use of renewable resources to provide climate protection and conservation of natural resources”. The following topics were discussed at the meeting: What is Bioeconomy? What will be the impact for the global economy? Current status and potential of bioeconomy in the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan?
On the second day Prof. Dr. Petr Kiryushkin gave insight to establishment and elaboration of the interdisciplinary Masters programme on sustainable development and bioeconomy in Russian State Agricultural University. He also reported on the future prospects of bioeconomy and sustainable development in Russia, which are topics of significantly increased interest in Russia over the last decade. The participants also discussed opportunities and barriers for the sustainable development of agriculture and inclusive bioeconomies in Russia and Kazakhstan, including issues related to policy and regulations, R & D and innovation.
Finally, Prof. Dr. Valeriy Koshelev gave a lecture on Organic agriculture and presented the results of the study: How has conversion to organic farming affected the financial situation of agricultural farms?
All participants actively contributed to lively discussions on the bioeconomy topics, shared experiences and collected fresh ideas for the SARUD curriculum and prospective research projects.
The backstopping visit on bioeconomy is hold as one of the sequence of backstopping visits on the Sustainable Rural Development related topics within the SARUD project.
