Training in organic agriculture and environmental aspects of sustainable rural development took place in Stavropol  [19.10.17]

The backstopping seminar was conducted by the Stavropol State Agrarian University on the 11-13th of October

The university is one of the Russian network partners in the frame of the SARUD project. The participants of the seminar were representatives of the Russian high education institutions implementing the master´s program in rural development and sustainable agriculture, including Omsk State Agrarian University, Michurinsk State Agrarian University, Novosibirsk State Agrarian University, Buryat State Academy of Agriculture. Additionally, a representative from Yaroslavl State Agricultural Academy took part as an expert. Practitioners were also invited to event.

The first day was devoted to the problems and prospects for the development of the organic agriculture in Russia. The participants of the training agreed on the importance of this topic for the agricultural sector. Moreover, it was stressed that environmentally safe goods must be produced in compliance with ecological legislation. The hosts of the meeting presented the research results in the field of organic agriculture, application of new forms of fertilizers and agroecological monitoring of the land in the Stavropol region. Besides discussions, the seminar participants also had a tour in the laboratories of the Stavropol State Agrarian University.

On the second day, which was dedicated to the ecological aspects of the sustainable development of rural areas, there was planned a visit to the university´s greenhouse complex and experimental farm. The meeting participants also discussed the prospects for cooperation in the priority areas of the agro-industrial complex stressing the importance of mutual exchange within the framework of the SARUD project. The project scientific coordinator from the University of Hohenheim (Germany), Prof. Dr. Martin Dietrich, gave a lecture on the role of ecology in the sustainable development of rural areas and presented the recent examples from the German experience in the organic farming. In addition to that, the seminar participants also discussed the prospects for implementing measures for developing an optimal waste management system in rural areas.
